Managing Your Filament Library

Tools for organizing, searching, and maintaining your filaments

Overview

The filament management page provides powerful tools to organize your growing material library. Whether you have 5 filaments or 50, these features help you quickly find the right material and make informed decisions.

Library Statistics

At the top of the Filaments page, you'll see four key statistics:

Total Filaments

Combined count of global presets and your custom filaments. Shows your entire available library.

Your Filaments

Number of custom filaments you've added. These are private to your account.

Types

Count of unique material types in your library (e.g., PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU).

Avg Cost/kg

Average cost per kilogram across all your filaments. Useful for quick estimates.

Search & Filter Tools

Search Bar

The search bar searches across both filament type and brand name. It's case-insensitive and searches in real-time.

Example Searches:

  • "PLA" - Finds all PLA filaments
  • "Hatchbox" - Finds all Hatchbox brand filaments
  • "PETG Polymaker" - Finds PETG from Polymaker
  • "TPU" - Finds all flexible filaments

Filter by Type

Use the Type dropdown to filter by material type:

  • All Types: Shows every filament
  • PLA: Shows only PLA materials
  • PETG: Shows only PETG materials
  • And so on for ABS, TPU, Nylon, etc.

Combined Filtering

You can use search and type filter together. For example, filter by "PETG" type and search for "Polymaker" to find only Polymaker PETG filaments.

Sorting Options

Sort your filaments using the "Sort by" dropdown:

Type

Groups filaments alphabetically by material type (ABS, Nylon, PLA, PETG, etc.)

Brand

Organizes by brand name alphabetically (Hatchbox, PolyLite, Prusament, etc.)

Spool Cost

Orders by spool purchase price, most expensive first. Useful for budget management.

Cost/kg

Orders by calculated cost per kilogram, highest first. Best for comparing true material costs.

Understanding the Tables

Your Filaments Table

Shows filaments you've added personally. These entries:

  • Can be edited or deleted by you
  • Reflect your actual purchase prices
  • Are private to your account
  • Include a "User" label in the Source column

Global Presets Table

Shows common filaments provided as starting points. These entries:

  • Can be imported to your library
  • Use approximate market prices
  • Are visible to all users
  • Include a "Global" label in the Source column
  • Can only be edited by administrators

Editing & Deleting Filaments

Editing a Filament

1. Find the filament in your filaments table

2. Click the "Edit" button

3. Update any field (type, brand, costs)

4. Click "Save Changes"

Changes apply immediately. Cost calculations update automatically.

Deleting a Filament

1. Locate the filament you want to remove

2. Click the "Delete" button

3. Confirm deletion in the prompt

Warning: Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. The filament will no longer appear in calculator dropdowns.

Best Practices

1.

Use Consistent Naming: Name your filaments consistently (e.g., "PLA" not "pla" or "P.L.A") for easier sorting and filtering.

2.

Regular Audits: Periodically review your library to remove discontinued filaments or update prices.

3.

Import Smart: Don't import all global presets. Only import what you might actually use to keep your library manageable.
