JPG

JPEG / JPG

Recommended

Best for photographs and images with gradients. Smaller file sizes with good quality.

Use for: Photos of finished prints, renders with backgrounds, detailed textures

PNG

PNG

High Quality

Best for screenshots, graphics, and images with transparency. Larger file sizes but lossless quality.

Use for: Slicer screenshots, CAD renders, logos, images with transparent backgrounds

Pro Tip: Both formats work well. Use JPG for smaller file sizes or PNG for maximum quality and transparency support.

Image Quality Guidelines

Follow these guidelines to ensure your images display clearly in the library.

Resolution

Minimum: 400x400 pixels

Recommended: 800x800 pixels or larger

Display size: 192x192px (thumbnails), up to full width in modals

  • Higher resolution provides clarity when viewed larger
  • Square images work best (1:1 aspect ratio)
  • Avoid very small images that appear pixelated

Aspect Ratio

  • Images display in a square preview box
  • Non-square images are cropped to fit using object-cover
  • Best practice: crop images to square before uploading
  • Ensure the model is centered if using rectangular images

Lighting & Clarity

  • Use good lighting to show model details clearly
  • Ensure the model is the focal point
  • Use contrasting backgrounds to make the model stand out
  • Avoid blurry, dark, or overexposed images

Image Best Practices

What to Photograph

Good Sources:

  • Photo of the finished print
  • 3D render from CAD software
  • Slicer preview screenshot
  • Marketplace product photo

Avoid:

  • Unrelated or generic images
  • Failed or incomplete prints
  • Messy background clutter
  • Poor lighting or blur

Photography Tips

  • Use natural daylight or bright white LED lighting
  • Place model on a clean, neutral background (white, gray, black)
  • Position camera at eye level with the model
  • Show the most interesting angle or overall view
  • Fill the frame - make the model the focus

Editing Images

Basic edits can improve your images significantly:

  • Crop to square aspect ratio (1:1)
  • Adjust brightness and contrast for clarity
  • Remove distracting background elements
  • Resize to around 800-1000px for optimal file size
