Supported File Formats

The Model Library accepts the most common 3D printing file formats used across different slicers and CAD software.

.STL

STL Files

Standard Tessellation Language - the most common 3D printing format. Supported by all slicers.

.3MF

3MF Files

3D Manufacturing Format - modern format that includes color, texture, and material information.

.OBJ

OBJ Files

Wavefront OBJ - commonly used for textured models and multi-material prints.

.STEP

STEP Files

Standard for the Exchange of Product Data - CAD format for precise engineering models.

.ZIP

ZIP Archives

Compressed files containing multiple model files or parts for complex assemblies.

Pro Tip: Upload all file formats of the same model for maximum compatibility with different slicers and workflows.

File Size Limits

File size limits vary based on your subscription tier. Larger files are supported for complex or highly detailed models.

Starter Tier

Free
50 MBper file

Suitable for most standard 3D models and simple assemblies.

Premium Tier

Paid
100 MBper file

Perfect for detailed models, textured files, and medium complexity assemblies.

Enterprise Tier

Business
500 MBper file

Designed for large assemblies, high-resolution scans, and complex multi-part models.

Note: Files exceeding your tier limit will not upload. Compress files or upgrade your tier for larger uploads.

Uploading Multiple Files

You can upload multiple files at once for models with multiple parts or different file formats.

Multi-Part Models

Upload all parts of an assembly together to keep them organized in one model entry.

Example: Dragon_Head.stl, Dragon_Body.stl, Dragon_Wings.stl, Dragon_Tail.stl

Multiple Formats

Upload the same model in different formats for compatibility with different slicers.

Example: Vase.stl, Vase.3mf, Vase.obj

Managing Uploaded Files

After selecting files, you can review and remove files before final upload.

  • Each file shows its name and size
  • Click "Remove" next to any file to exclude it from upload
  • Add more files by clicking the upload area again or dragging additional files
  • All selected files are uploaded together when you submit the form

Upload Best Practices

File Naming

  • Use descriptive names: Dragon_Model_v2.stl
  • Include version numbers for iterations
  • For multi-part models, use consistent prefixes
  • Avoid special characters that may cause issues: *?<>|

File Preparation

  • Check files are manifold (watertight) before uploading
  • Optimize mesh resolution for your print quality needs
  • Remove unnecessary geometry to reduce file size
  • For ZIP files, ensure all parts are included before compressing

Organization

  • Upload related files together in one model entry
  • Use categories to group similar models
  • Add meaningful descriptions for future reference
  • Include designer attribution if from a marketplace

Troubleshooting

File Too Large

If your file exceeds the size limit for your tier:

  • Reduce mesh resolution in your CAD software
  • Remove unnecessary details or geometry
  • Compress the file into a ZIP archive
  • Upgrade to Premium or Enterprise tier for higher limits

Upload Failed

If your upload fails or times out:

  • Check your internet connection stability
  • Try uploading fewer files at once
  • Refresh the page and try again
  • Contact support if the issue persists

Format Not Supported

If your file format is rejected:

  • Convert to STL, 3MF, OBJ, or STEP format
  • Use your CAD software's export function
  • Package unsupported files in a ZIP archive
